About the Vest

Bullet and stab proof K-9 vests, which cost $840 each, can save these brave K-9’s when involved in an aggressive situation. These vests can make the difference between life and death for some police dogs.  These vests can protect against blunt trauma as well, saving a dog from potentially broken ribs or punctured lungs.

Each vest is made from the exact material, Dupont Kevlar, that is used to protect our human police officers.

These vests are adjustable so most any K-9 can be fitted.

The vests have been tested and are comfortable for the K-9’s.

The vests offer piece of mind to law enforcement officers who have to protect themselves as well as their K-9 partner.

In the past 10 years, 60% of police dog deaths were due to bullet, stab or blunt trauma injuries.  These tragedies could have been prevented if the dogs were fitted with protected vests.

These vest save lives! In 2003, a Washington state police K-9 was shot twice and survived because he was wearing a protective vest.

A normal career life for a working K-9 is 8 to 10 years.

An acceptable candidate dog for K-9 training can cost between $3000 to $10,000.  K-9 and their handlers attend an initial training session lasting about 3 months.  The handlers and their dogs get to know each other and get used to each other’s responses. Specific training starts later such as; scent tracking and apprehension work. Additional training and certification is required for any specialty training such as; scent recognition of cadavers, narcotics, accelerants (arson investigation), and bombs.
